Dr Tasnim Jara, Senior Joint Member Secretary of the NCP, has resigned from the party. She announced her resignation on Saturday evening at around 7 pm through the party’s WhatsApp group. However, she later stated on her verified Facebook profile that she will contest the election from the Dhaka-9 constituency as an independent candidate.
Tasnim Jara’s husband, Khaled Saifullah, who is a Joint Convener of the NCP, is also expected to resign from the party. Speaking to the media, Tasnim Jara said, “I am resigning due to personal reasons.”
Following the finalisation of the NCP’s electoral understanding with Jamaat-e-Islami, Tasnim Jara stepped down from her post as Senior Joint Member Secretary last Saturday. In a subsequent Facebook post, she wrote, “Considering the practical realities, I have decided not to contest the election as a candidate of any specific party or alliance… I will take part in this election from Dhaka-9 as an independent candidate.”
Tasnim Jara has already begun collecting signatures from 1 per cent of the voters of the Dhaka-9 constituency, which comprises Khilgaon, Sabujbagh and Mugda police stations, along with the Manda area, as part of the requirements to contest as an independent candidate.
