Dhaka: Private television channel Ekushey Television has removed presenter Samriddhi Tabassum from its popular podcast programme Ayna. The channel authorities stated that the allegations brought against her were considered “serious”, and that this decision was taken on that basis. The matter was announced on Monday (20 October) through a post on Ekushey Television’s official Facebook page. The post said: “Presenter Samriddhi Tabassum has been relieved of her duties on the popular podcast ‘Ayna’ on grounds of serious misconduct.” It is worth noting that Samriddhi Tabassum first came into the spotlight through a programme on the private satellite television channel Nagorik TV. She later gained popularity by presenting several shows across different platforms. However, Ekushey Television’s decision has sparked intense debate on social media. Many have questioned whether it was appropriate to publicly single out a young presenter in this manner, even if she had made a mistake. Others have come out in support of Samriddhi, arguing that she is being unnecessarily dragged into controversy. The channel authorities have not yet provided further details, but the incident has already triggered widespread speculation within media circles.
