The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) has published the results of the 49th (Special) BCS examination. According to an official notification issued on Sunday night (19 October), a total of 1,219 candidates have passed the MCQ-type written examination.
The examination was held simultaneously across the country on 10 October. PSC sources said that the schedule for the viva voce will be announced within the next week. The commission has indicated that the oral examinations are likely to begin about a week after the publication of the results.
According to available information, more than 312,000 candidates applied to sit for this special BCS examination. Of them, around 176,670 candidates appeared in the test—representing 56.49 per cent of total applicants. This means that, on average, 456 candidates competed for each vacant post.
The PSC published the recruitment circular for the 49th Special BCS on 21 July this year. Through this recruitment process, 683 posts will be filled in the general education cadre.
Once again, the highly competitive nature of this government recruitment examination has been clearly evident. For the successful candidates, the wait now continues for the oral stage, which will determine who ultimately receives appointment letters to the coveted BCS cadre positions.
