Veteran South Indian actor Kamal Haasan stars in Thug Life, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam. In the film, Haasan appears opposite Trisha Krishnan, who is 28 years younger than him.
The trailer of Thug Life was released on 17 May. In it, Kamal Haasan is seen kissing Trisha, who is young enough to be his granddaughter. While a large section of netizens have praised the trailer, many viewers have felt uncomfortable with the kissing scene between Kamal and Trisha, and some have criticised it harshly.
One person wrote, “If an old man falls in love with a young woman, there’s nothing much to say. But when an old man pretends to behave like a young man, it looks strange.” Another commented, “I was genuinely shocked after watching the trailer.”
Jokingly, one user wrote, “Only a 30-year age gap and they’re supposedly soulmates! What is this?” Another referred to Kamal Haasan’s daughter Shruti, writing, “Trisha is only three years older than Shruti. How is it even possible to perform such a scene with a girl young enough to be his granddaughter?”
However, some people came out in support of Kamal Haasan. One wrote, “For the sake of a character, anything may be required. The story clearly shows an older gangster falling in love with a much younger woman, so the scene feels appropriate in that context.”
The much-discussed film Thug Life is set to be released in cinemas on 5 June. With this film, Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan have reunited after 37 years.
