Former US President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with cancer. In a statement issued by his office on Sunday (19 May), it was said that the 82-year-old former president has prostate cancer and that the cancer has spread to his bones, the BBC reported.
The statement said that Biden visited a doctor last week due to urinary problems. Following medical examinations, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer on Friday.
After news of Biden’s diagnosis became public, messages of sympathy poured in from across the political spectrum. Current President Donald Trump wrote on social media that he and First Lady Melania Trump were “saddened by the news about Joe Biden” and wished him a speedy recovery.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris wrote in a post on X that she and her husband were keeping Joe Biden in their prayers. She said, “I know Joe is a fighter. He has the strength to face this challenge.”
Former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle also shared messages on the matter. Obama wrote, “No one has done more than Joe Biden to advance cancer treatment. I am confident that he will face this challenge with his characteristic resolve and dignity. We are praying for his swift and full recovery.”
Joe Biden served as the oldest president in US history. Due to concerns over his health and age, he was forced to withdraw from the 2024 US presidential election.
