ICC’s chief prosecutor placed on compulsory leave

The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, based in The Hague, the Netherlands, has been ordered to go on compulsory leave. He will not remain in office until the investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against him is completed, the court has decided. The information was reported on Monday (19 May) by Turkey’s state news agency Anadolu. According to the report, the chief prosecutor has been placed on leave until the investigation by the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) is concluded. In a statement issued on Sunday, the Presidency of the ICC Assembly of States Parties said that the investigation into the allegations against the prosecutor is being conducted by OIOS at the request of the Assembly’s Presidency, following consultations with the Assembly’s Bureau.
