BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, “Democracy and the BNP are one and the same. I want to judge a conspiracy against the BNP and a conspiracy against democracy by the same standard.” He made the remarks on Thursday (1 May) at a workers’ rally organised to mark International Workers’ Day in front of the BNP central office at Naya Paltan in the capital. Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, “Fascism had to be driven out to restore democracy. However, democracy has yet to see the light of day; it is stuck in quicksand.” He added, “This situation will change. Under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, democracy will see the light of day.” The BNP Standing Committee member further said, “The interim government has signed an agreement with Arakan on seven conditions. Why are they not disclosing those conditions? Sheikh Hasina had also signed agreements under such conditions, which were not made public. It will be seen that such agreements could one day become a festering sore for the country.”
